How to take care of your denims

A well-fitted pair of jeans is a staple in any woman’s wardrobe. We all have that one pair that we just love wearing. Here are 4 tips to make sure your denims keep their fit and shape.

1. Don’t wash them often

A pair of jeans is the one item in your wardrobe that can withstand everyday wear without needing to be washed often. Washing your jeans too regularly, will cause the colour to fade. Rather spot clean the stain with a damp cloth or old toothbrush and mild detergent.

2. Do wash with cold water

Always choose cold water when washing your denims. This will avoid shrinkage and retain the shape you love. Plus, when you wash clothes in cold water, it saves electricity, thus saving you money!

3. Do turn your denims inside out

We all love faded denims but the best fade comes from living in your jeans and not from the washing machine. Turn your jeans inside out when washing them. If you have some time to spare, handwash your denims for even longer wear.
Tip: Remember to turn out the cuffs to get rid of any dirt that might be stuck in there.

4. Do air dry

Air drying is best for denim. Find a cool place away from harsh sunlight and let dry. This will extend the longevity of your jeans. Once they are dry, the fabric might be a little hard. Here’s a clever trick: Wet your hands and wipe on areas of your jeans you would like to soften, use a hair dryer and dry on low heat till dry. Or pop them into the tumble dryer for five minutes.
Tip: When hanging up indigo or dark jeans to dry, place an old towel underneath so that they don’t stain your floors.
