Show yourself some love

Self-love is the appreciation of your own worth and the ability to be kind to yourself, physically and emotionally. It motivates you to make healthy choices in life. It is also the commitment to take care of those around you but also making sure that you put in the time and effort to take care of yourself.

Here are some ways you can show yourself some love:

Enjoy your own company

Whether it’s sitting quietly alone reading a magazine, praying or meditating – these are the moments you could use to comfortably be alone. Enjoy your own company and plan on how to occasionally enjoy activities alone like catching up on the omnibus of your favourite TV show, or enjoying a long bath, or listening to your favourite songs.

Pamper yourself

Spoiling yourself doesn’t have to cost big bucks – it is about gifting yourself with small things a DIY Pedicure, a face mask or hair treatment. See it as an act of self-love and an opportunity to be grateful.

Take care of your health

Taking care of your health does not have to be an overwhelming project like aiming to lose a lot of weight. It can be as simple as drinking the recommended amount of water a day (eight glasses) or making the commitment to choose healthier options when it comes to eating. For example, cutting back on the amount of sugar in your tea, or even reducing the amount of times you drink cool drinks. However, if you are suffering from serious health issues, self-love includes taking your illness seriously and committing to stay healthy, not only for those around you, but for yourself. It means sticking to doctor’s orders.

Be kind to yourself

It is said that our harshest critics are most often our own selves. Perhaps the most important act of self-love is the commitment to being kind to yourself, which includes forgiving yourself for past failures and mistakes. Challenge negative and critical thoughts of yourself and replace them with positive thoughts of kindness or gratitude. For example, think of the times you were critical of your body, shape or size and replace it with the gratitude of all the things your body has achieved – despite its shape or size.
