Make your own fabric softener

The purpose of fabric softener is to keep static off your clothing and give your clothes a soft finish. Making your own fabric softener with household items you may already have, is not only affordable but a great way to save the planet.

Here are two recipes you can try out.

Vinegar-based fabric softener

  • 1 litre white vinegar
  • 10 drops of any essential oil
  • an empty plastic bottle (large enough to hold 1 litre of liquid)

  1. Pour the vinegar into the empty plastic bottle.
  2. Then add 10 drops of your favourite essential oil. We added five drops of lavender and five drops of eucalyptus oil.
  3. Shake it up.

Usage guideline:
Use ½ cup for big loads and ¼ cup for regular loads.

  • ½ cup (125 ml) baking soda
  • 40 drops of essential oil
  • glass jar
