Tips to wear the off-the-shoulder trend

The cold shoulder trend is the chicest way to show some skin this summer. This classic, feminine shoulder-baring trend dates back to the 1800s with the likes of Brigitte Bardot putting her own spin on the trend. Making a comeback in the 2000s, celebs such as Amanda Du-Pont and DJ Zinhle are embracing the trend.

From gorgeous dresses and statement tops to swimwear, it seems all you need to do is apply some illuminating cream on your shoulders and you’re ready for summer’s hottest trend.

Here are 3 of our top tips to wear this trend with confidence:

Start with the basics

A well-fitted bra is a must! A strapless bra would be the obvious choice. But if you have a bigger bust and don’t feel comfortable with a strapless, go for a bra in the same colour as your top, or one with decorative straps that will look stylish. Try our easy bra fit video to get your correct bra size.

Find your type

There is a style to suit all body types. The cold shoulder is a top that leaves bare skin between the strap and sleeve, but the trend also translates into off-the-shoulder looks where both shoulders are exposed and one-shoulder silhouettes. It’s essential to choose the right print and length for your shape. If you have broad shoulders, go for vertical prints. Petite women should opt for shorter hemlines with a smaller print.

Wear it with…

The great thing about this trend is that you can wear it with virtually anything. Style your ruched, off-the-shoulder top with distressed denim shorts, or for a casual yet stylish lunch out with your friends, pair white pants with a cold shoulder top, metallic sandals and accessories.
