A top DJ, actress, businesswoman and devoted mother – and she’s passionate about female empowerment.
My message to women is: ‘We must fight harder for the things we want,’ says Ntombesinhle Jiyane, better known as DJ Zinhle. ‘Dreaming takes guts. Your dreams must scare you.’
And the successful powerhouse is an excellent example of exactly this. Through years of hard work and determination she’s created a name for herself as a world-class DJ, radio presenter, actress and fashion entrepreneur, recently being appointed the new celebrity partner for eyewear brand Privé Revaux SA.
‘My mother is my role model. She raised four kids while working full-time and instilled a strong sense of self-belief in us. She was so inspiring and managed to juggle everything.’
Paving the way
The 35-year-old mom of toddler Kairo is committed to helping young women who want to break into the DJ-ing scene. More than 500 girls have already passed through FUSE Academy, the organisation Zinhle founded to nurture new talent.
‘DJ-ing is a hard industry and there was no formal place for youngsters to get information. FUSE creates a comfortable place for aspiring women DJs to grow and learn.’
Expanding her horizons
Zinhle has also added fashion entrepreneur to her impressive list of achievements. ‘My team and I launched Era five years ago and it has gone from strength to strength. We’ve recruited female campus agents who are trained to sell our merchandise to earn extra money. We’re busy making it available to other women – I have a vision of women selling Era products across the country.’
